Tips on choosing a wedding planner.
If you have decided to employ a wedding planner, you may have just decided to put
the most important day of your life in the hands of a total stranger. Scary!
One of the best ways to find a wedding planner is talk to your married friends, family
members and colleagues.
Talk to anyone who may have used a wedding planner and if you can get a recommendation
then you may be good to go.
How well did using the wedding planner work for the couple?
Find out how the whole experience of using a wedding planner worked for them:
Ask them what the relationship was like. Could they relate to them?. Were the lines
of communication wide open? Did the wedding planner make decisions that they did
not agree with? Did the wedding planner take the initiative at the right times?
Did the couple feel unduly influenced by the wedding planner’s view of the wedding
or did they have complete control? Was the wedding planner available when they needed?
Did the wedding planner prevent problems from arising? Did the wedding planner
deal issues in a calm and competent manner? Did they stay within the budget? If
there were budget over-runs were they made aware in due time and allowed the final
decision? Did they adhere to the plan? One more question - If they had to go through
it all again, would they have used a wedding planner and would they use the same
one again?
If you are not fortunate enough to obtain a recommendation for an available wedding
planner then the fun begins!
- Check classified advertising both online and offline.
- Search for wedding planners on the Internet
- Look in popular wedding magazines.
- Read people’s stories on the Internet and their recommendations.
When you find wedding planners that you think may be suitable:
Talk to them and see if they are the wedding planner for you. The right person will
alleviate the pre-wedding stress and make your wedding day the perfect day of your
dreams.
- Can you relate to them?
- Do you feel that they can take on board your vision of your wedding rather than give
you a one size fits all type of package.?
- Can you discuss your requirements in detail?
- Make sure their personality is a good fit for you since you will be communicating
with them on a regular basis.
- Check their reputation and experience by asking for references.
- Make sure you interview the wedding planner in person so you can get a feel for whether
or not you will get along with them and if their ideas mesh with yours.
- Discuss your wedding budget. Make sure they can work within it.
- Wedding planners usually charge a percentage (this may be around 10%) of the total
cost of the wedding so they can be expensive depending on the budget for the wedding. You
should negotiate the fees prior to officially commencing the wedding planner contract.
- If you have that gut feeling that they are not right for the job, listen to that
feeling and move on to the next wedding planner on your list.
- Talk to more than one wedding planner. You need to be able to make a comparison.
Tell each wedding planner what your ideas are and have them give you their feedback.
- Ensuring you are the right client for the wedding planner is important too! Different
wedding planners may work in varying ways and you need to ensure that they will be
comfortable working with you, your budget and your idea of the perfect wedding.
- When you do decide on a wedding planner, obtain references and ask the questions
outlined above.
The right wedding planner can make your wedding dreams come true!
